You may not have heard the term "advanced technology"; however, employees in these careers are a part of creating just about anything you can imagine.  Advanced technology employees in Virginia can go from working in labs developing life-saving medicine to making “green” energy. The advanced technology sector covers 19 industries including manufacturing, health care, information technology, robotics and biotechnology.  

When thinking of your child's future, these advanced technology careers offer above average pay and the ability for advancement as well as provide skills that can be utilized in a variety of world-class industries. For example, the manufacturing industry’s average compensation is approximately $70,000. Employees in these career paths are a part of developing much needed products and services, and there are many opportunities available in the advanced technology sector for a variety of interests.  Twenty three percent of current workers in these careers are eligible to retire in the next two to five years. Therefore, employers will be searching for qualified applicants to hire soon.
